Title: Hello from the uk Post by GRUSS on Jan 2nd, 2012 at 4:15am
Hello
I'm Russ and have worked on vauxhalls since I left school back in 1998. I'm now training to work on the KIA franchise as well. I've been on a couple of KIA training courses and used there own dealer scope which I found very interesting. I've decided to buy my own pico scope as I want to improve my own diagnostic skills and see it as a future investment for my own career. Please bear in mind as I'm very new to scopes so will probably take a little time to pick it up etc. Happy new year to everyone btw Russ |

We were all new at some point Russ, no worries. I'm interested in what the dealership scope is, could you let me know. Welcome aboard.

It's called GDS (global diagnostic system) which is based on a tough book cf-19 and you plug in a VMI module which then becomes the scope. We used it to look at some common rail injectors and that's what got me researching the pico scope. This is it.. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Kia-GDS-Global-Information-System-KGIS-dealer-vehicle-diagnostic-test-equipment-/180783691593?pt=UK_Diagnostic_Tools_Equipment&hash=item2a178c3749#ht_11552wt_922 There used to be 2 KIA techs in our dealership who were both trained up but one left so they asked me if I wanted to start the training. Tbh, it's very rare that I even touch a KIA, so I've hardly used the equipment. I wanted the pico for myself and in the future really. |

Welcome Gruss, I was in a KIA dealership here in the states for a very short time, The GDS is ok, kinda slow.
You’ll like the Pico and the customer support you get with it. I highly recommend the enrollment in the Nerdz Series, a really great learning experience, an excellent investment. The plus side is you can watch it, practice, go back watch it again, come here and ask questions, 8-) |

if you haven't purchased the pico yet, you can get the 'picogroup' subscription as part of a package deal through tom here in the states, or through lee in the uk. lee's details are here: http://www.autonerdz.com/cgi/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1328040762 |

Thanks kenny! It's good to know there's also another new guy to pico!
Crackerclicker I'm afraid I overlooked Autonerdz as i bought my scope from a uk seller just after Xmas. I got it from james at technical topics. http://www.techtopics.co.uk/ I do have a days training when I want it this year as well that came with the scope. I'm still very interested in the subscription as a long term learning process. Btw I like to ask lots of questions! :) |
