Title: Winter Storm
Post by Tom Roberts on Jan 19th, 2012 at 9:20am

Here at Autonerdz we got hit with the biggest snow dump since 1972.  Got 12-15 inches yesterday.  That pretty much stopped everything.  But wait....there is more.

This morning we are experiencing an ice storm.  Big tree parts are falling down on things everywhere and travel is impossible.

As I type this, we have no power, no Internet, and no land line phone.  We are running off generator, and WiFi card and returning messages via Skype.

Thank you for your patience.

I'm going to try to talk Brian into being MC tonight.  Last I heard he still had good internet.  No way I can do it on this WiFi card.  There ate tens of thousands here without power, etc.  May be some time before they get around to us.

Too late to resshedule now.  It will either work or not....

Thanks Sean,

Enough trees were cleared from the roads for me to make it into town today where power has been restored at this Denny's this morning where my WiFi card can find a working cell tower.  I still have nothing at all back at the shop or home.  Even the WiFi card does not work because some of the cell towers are still down.

This may continue for several more days.  The destruction is extensive and widespread and we are at the center of it.  Even the US Postal service was taken down.  No mail delivery for days.  Had a couple of packages yesterday but the mailman told me that there will be no letters delivered until power is restored at the sorting facility.

Lived here since I was 9 and never seen anything like this.  The snow was no real problem.  It was the ice storm that crushed everything.

Our customers are all spoiled rotten but that was the desired effect   ;)

We ask everyone for their continued patience while we wait for services to be restored.

Just wanted to stop in with an update.

Tom,

did you have any damage at home or the at the shop?

I can guess that "your boss" is getting tired of the sound of a generator by now.

be safe and we will all be here when you get up and running.

take care,

dave

Some monor damage.  Nothing expensive so far.  And most importantly, we are all OK.  Some people did get crushed.

A pickup truck next to and slightly in front of me with WA plates last night on the freeway hit a bump and flung out a sheet of ice that nailed the passenger top side of my truck.  I'm guessing that the rain had built up in his bed and then froze creating that sheet in the first place.  It was pretty nuts when it lifted out of his bed and then went all slow mo in the air until crashing into the top of my truck.  I knew it was just ice so I didn't try to maneuver or anything, pretty crazy though.
Sorry Tom, I haven't been watching the news, didn't realize it got that bad up there.  Glad to hear that you and yours are safe though.

We are starting to get some services restored now...but the wind is coming now.  May be more issues with weakened trees now blowing over....

But for now we have power and internet again.  Still waiting for the land line phone....our main business line... to be restored.

Hey Guys

We got our Snow over here in the UK.

Had to dig the Car out but made an awesome Snowman, or monster lol.

My littleones said 'As it was white and like christmas, could we put the Christmas Tree back up'. I have to agree the idea did sound appealing lol.
