Title: Hi from OZ
Post by Aussieron on May 13th, 2013 at 12:15am
Hi from OZ.
Brilliant site and forum
I've been a spanner for 40 years but have been off the tools for about 15, 60 years old  (married to the same lady for 35). I seem to be on the scrap heap so I think I will start up my own business again. With your help I might even get good at it. I am working at a mech workshop 3 days per week and if I still have the fire and ability I will  purchase the very best (I need all the help I can get) equipment and see how we go.  :D

Thanks Anthony,
Just started at Newstead (mostly late model european), It is a pain as I live at Redcliffe so nearly 1 hour each way but only 3 days. I will probably start up at geebung or Virginia (northside) I have examiners licenses for light and heavy vehicles but being off the tools for so long and the fact that I'm 60 no-one wants me. I've owned and managed workshops in the past so it doesn't worry me to start up again (probably just cars this time)  8-)

You found the right place for that for certain.  Welcome, we're all glad to help when we can.

Damn traffic is bad going when working in the city.
I live in Strathpine and work up at Mango Hill / North lakes.
Give me a yell if you wanna have a play with a pico.

Hey I resemble that, I have enough limitations. So I refuse to be hindered by my equipment too.  AutoNerdz will be time well spent. We seniors need to stick together. Welcome to the Group.

Welcome aboard Oz,

Your not on the scrap heap here. Age doesn't matter. We can all learn from each other, young, middle, old, all are on this site. Heck I'm 64  :D. :)

Congrads on the marriage of 35 years too. Sounds like you have alot going for you to me. ;)

Thank you all, I am a certified applicator of cerakote high temp coatings and NIC powder coating (I built a LPG fired oven 2mtrx1x1 internal) but to setup with all of the EPA regulations is over $100,000 but I can setup a well equipped workshop for about $70,000 and do the powder and ceramic coatings as a sideline, plus I used to be pretty good on autos so things should pan out OK. My daughter lives in Berkeley, California (she and her hubby have just applied for their green cards and she is pregnant with her first so a little Yank will soon be upon us) so when we get over to see them I might even drop in and meet a few of you

Spent a lot of time in Berzerkeley ( not a typo ), working and playing  ;).  My uncle gave me my start in this business so I owe him, and the guys he had/has working for him a ton!  If your daughter needs a good shop to take their vehicles too, Holland Service would obviously be my recommendation.  It's on San Pablo avenue, 3 blocks South of University Ave.
