Title: DIY home made pressure transducer & "BLS" Post by Gogetta on Jul 11th, 2013 at 7:26am
hi guys...
have any of u guys tried using a MAP sensor with linear voltage output to read various pressures? EG GM MAP as an exhaust pulse pressure sensor?? im wondering what the BLS " brandon look sensor" is constructed from? anyone? |

Gogetta, May I suggest this- http://www.autonerdz.com/picokit.htm#_Plus_you_get I think if you use a lab scope for Automotive use or anything else. plus a DIY guy I think you'll find everything and more of what your looking for. ;) There are some WICKED SMART peeps in here. |

A GM tank sensor probably works better for exhaust pulses. If you replace GM fuel pumps it is pretty easy to pick one up since the new pumps usually have a new sensor.
If they are difficult to come by I have a lot and could send you a couple. A MAP sesnsor will work for vacuum either will require either using a 9V batt or setting up a 5v supply. Sam |

Map sensors are too filtered for valuable info, unless you're looking for filtered readings.

I'll have to take back that last statement, the map sensors that I messed around with off of a ford were too filtered to show anything other than linear changes, but as a fellow nerd pointed out to me GM map sensors may be more than sensitive enough to get the job done, let me know what you figure out. :)

I am building one like that at this time. I found it at automotive lab scope diagnostics go to sensor testing and waveforms then to build a vacuum probe (sorry I can not give a link) It uses a GM MAP # 16006835. I found one on EBAY $15 NAPA has them but for $106 no way . Any way the rest of the ckt. uses 2 pots and 6volt power and a switch. When I get it done I will give it a try and repost

just use a 9v battery and hook directly up to it, if you want it to be scaled like in a car use a lm7805 regulator with the 9v battery at radioshack, three wires (caps not required)

If I read somewhere correctly, Brandon used a piezo electric transducer from RadioShack. It converts mechanical energy (pressure pulses) directly to electrical- so the two leads go right to your scope (no battery needed). You have to fabricate a housing to hold/seal the transducer that you can connect it to your vac port on the engine.
I also use one made from an old GM MAP sensor that's powered by 3 AA batteries. |

I'm building a bls sensor right now to use with my mt2400 vantage. I will put up some pictures when I'm done. If anyone. knows Brandon, tell him I said thank you.

I told him...Brandon is well known by everybody here since he joined the nerd site a few years ago. He's one of those individuals that is very knowlegable and is not selfesh about sharing it with others..He'll be glad to hear that you're making one of his many creations busjockey. :)

Did you finish it? I'm in the process of building one myself. |

Not yet, have not had time yet. Will post when I'm done.
