Title: Hi From PA
Post by Kael on Mar 5th, 2014 at 11:14pm
Hi everyone

I'm new to scopes... unless you count the Radio Shack Probe Scope I bought in 1997 to look at the cam signal on my 1988 Nissan Pulsar (EXA for you guys/girls overseas).... but I haven't had a computer old enough to run the scopes software for about 10 years...

I'm also relatively new to the professional side of Auto Tech.  I officially started my own small garage about a year ago, but I've been seriously focused on learning many aspects of auto tech for the last five years.  My primary focus is passenger vehicles with gasoline engines.

So far I've had a lot of success (and some luck...) in establishing a good local reputation for solving difficult problems, and for fixing it right the first time.  I'm really looking to refine that ability by using the scope.... it completely ruins my day anytime my options become limited to changing a part below 95% confidence, and even though it's very rare for me to part swap, it ruins my day whether it works or not, because I haven't learned anything in the process....I'm all about the details and the learning..... anyway...

I've been doing a bit of reading here on the forums, while I wait for my PicoScope to arrive, and I can tell that you guys are not screwing around here. Watching last months Picotologist video session, I was on the edge of my seat waiting for the reveal, my brain was smoking trying to come up with it on my own, and I was floored at the solution, sad that I didn't see it, and happy that I seem to understand it.  But I'm sure stuff like that is just the tip of the iceberg. :)

This looks like a great community and I've very excited to have an opportunity to learn and hopefully contribute.  In the short term, I have a goal to come up with a few known good waveforms that aren't in the database, to attempt offset the questions I'm pretty much bound to have.

Glad to have found you guys, I feel like the research I put into purchasing a scope has already paid off.  :)  Thanks for being here.

*** edit was for really bad grammar***

We are happy to have you, Kael.

I can see from your well thought out post in the Picogroup area you are already contributing....before you even have your scope.

Can't wait to see what you do after you have your scope.

  Don't forget the attenuators!

Welcome aboard Ace.  Quick question, could you spell your name phonetically for me, just trying to figure out how to pronounce it.  Thanks.

Oddly, I feel like it's already phonetic..... also spelling is not my thing, and phonetic spelling is a mystery to me.....Perhaps this will help, most people using this name spell it Cale.  The lettuce like stuff (kale) is, I believe, also pronounced the same.  Kael is a name I gave myself, (forgot about the lettuce like stuff at the time) and typically only use at a festival I attend, and among the friends I make there.  My given name is Shawn, and you all may call me either name.

I had assumed this was the correct way, thanks Kael/Shawn.
