Title: Hello from the UK
Post by mark152152 on Jan 11th, 2015 at 9:20pm
Well this is a bit of a late hello seems I have already posted but just thought id say hi.

Im from the UK. I dont actually work in the motor industry. I actually work in pharmaceuticals industry. However I am a keen DIYer. My field of knowledge relates to motorbikes and opel/Vauxhall cars.  Ive just started to get into using the scope. Im not sure if I can push it to investing in a Pico just yet due to the cost and the fact im am a DIYer but we will see what the future holds. I can live in hope. I currently have a cheap Hantek 1008 which ive used to learn how to use the scope. I also have a handheld Velleman HPS140I scope.

I also am a founder member of a forum for vauxhall/opel diagnostics here in the UK. Im not sure If I can put a link on here so I wont do until I know its ok. Can someone confirm if a link would be ok. NOTE - the site is purely individuals like myself and its all voluntary.

Mark,

Your not completely alone......

I used to work in the pharmaceutical industry many years ago.

I was a works manager with a contract soft gelatin capsule company.

It is in the blood...my Great Great Grandfather was co founder of the Victorian (Melbourne Australia) Pharmaceutical Board.

Yes you will buy a Picoscope, and if you take my good advise it will be from Tom so that you can get into the Picogroup.

He may still have some redundant model 4000 scopes that will suit you and serve you beyond anything that you could or will imagine....

Links are fine.  In fact, we encourage posting links to outside content rather than copying it and pasting it.  Same goes the other way, you are welcome to post links to content you find here (do not copy and paste).  Keep in mind that registration is required to access much of our content here.

Welcome Mark.  Glad to have you here.

I also don't work in a garage but am employed in a boat repair facility which sometimes I am free from in which case I will crew on vessels, have worked some in garages, and do maintenance on company vehicles.
Some folks spend thousands on stereos or PC systems, the PICO would be easier to justify than toys.

I agree. A Pico would be a investment in my eyes. I will have to keep saving my money. I think a 4 channel 4000 series is around 800 UK pounds over here.

I work for a company based in the Northwest - United Kingdom. They are part of a bigger group who you may have heard of called "marksan pharma". Our company is currently looking into making soft gelatin capsules. I dont think it will be happening in the UK and will probably be made under license somewhere else.

I'd advise buying it from Autonerdz instead of a local supplier.  That way, you get lifetime Picogroup membership and access to all the perks that come with it, including the picogroup area of the forums :)

Many thanks Tom. Ive bookmarked this for when I decide to take the plunge and buy a Pico. What one would you recommend taking into consideration that im a DIYer. I want one that can do canbus signals. Im not sure that the Hantek ive got at present will do canbus.(ive not tried to be honest).

I think ill start putting some money aside each month without the wife knowing  ;) ;) ;) ;)

I would wait until you are in the Picrogroup before you make any other such confessions Mark :)

The Pico has the CAN bus decoding and I'm hopeful that the day will come where you might be able to see CAN message signals from within the messages in the graphic screen.
That does require some knowledge of a CAN DBA or DBC database but when in the Picogroup I will be happy to give you a heads up.

We have some pretty serious 'hobbyists' in the group.  I would say the same thing as I would to a pro.  Get a four channel kit.  You'll be glad you did.  Check with Lee to see which of his kits have Picogroup membership included.

I do all my own repairs/diagnostics. @£70 per hour it soon pays for itself. Ive probably still got 40 years ahead of me. Id have to make it pay lol

Hi Donald. I have replied to your PM. It was good job you left a message saying I had a PM or I would not have noticed it.

For anyone interested in the forum I manage. Here is a link

We are currently experiencing technical issues at the minute which is out of our control so you might not be able to access it straight away. Please bear with us!

It is not dedicated to anyone. We help everyone. Remember that vauxcom is UK. Opcom is worldwide. Both are genuine from auto3m

No need to try educate me on scan tools !

I asked a simple question as I remember another so called 'Opcom' forum being shut down for the same reason, if it is more for the clone then I would not even entertain clicking on the link as I have the genuine tool.

I too have a genuine tool and the opcom site was shut down for sharing pirate software.
