First O Scope purchase - AZ - USA
Jun 21st, 2011 at 11:29am

Well I have been an auto nerd for some time now, always intrigued with automotive technology and diagnosis. I am by no means a professional technician, everything I do is hobby, though I am currently studying Automotive Engineering (Barely started) to pursue a career in the automotive industry.

I have some formal training including Universal Technical Institute along with Ford Accelerated Credential Training. I have completed a few automotive ASE tests though lost interest.

After much contemplating I made my first O Scope purchase. Though I am on a budget I wanted a semi decent scope for both automotive and more in depth electrical system testing (for future use), so I decided to pick up a Hantek DSO 1200 handheld oscilloscope.

I have little experience, but some, with products such as the Snap on Vantage, Vantage Pro, and Modis. I look forward to delving deeper into scope use as a scope could have taken so much guess work out of so many repairs.

Anyways, I just wanted to introduce myself and get to know some people around here. I will be lurking the forum for information as I am already aware there is an abundance. Don't be surprised when I bombard the place with questions though! Smiley

The scope is a very important tool - but dont forget the scantool! its a must have for obdII and gives you direction for using your scope. A good starter scantool is the OTC nemisys or genisys. (get a graphing capability scantool) The snap on ethos is alsopretty decent.
the first year or so scope as many vehicles and areas you can (that run good) and save the waves. Then scope vehicles with issues. Anything you dont understand post it here so we can help.
Welcome to the forums. Your scope will pay for itself.

Thanks for the welcomes! I forgot to mention though- most of the fidling around I will be doing will be on my own vehicle which is OBD. 87 Toyota Supra Turbo. I don't do any professional diagnosis (don't work in a shop or anything) so no scan tool in order for me!
