Well I've been registered here for a little over a year so this is very much a late introduction.
My name is Chris. I just turned 35 in April. I'm a new dad! My son is 9 months old. I graduated from Nicolet technical college in Rhinelander, Wisconsin in 1998 and have worked in different areas of the auto industry since. I worked for a handful of different shops over the years, After that I got in good with a guy who does custom interiors on hot rods and I did that for awhile.
Then just about 9 years ago I got a job as a union fleet mechanic for the city or Aurora, IL. My hometown.
Most of my career I have been very weak in the drive ability, engine performance aspect of the industry and maybe a little scared. Attending some excellent classes from John Thornton really jump started my interest in this area especially with the Picoscope.
Now even though working in a union environment has it's benefits, ambition and a hunger to learn new things is somewhat non existent. As was shown by our diagnostic equipment (one old mastertech out of date).
So last year I decided to take matters in my own hand and get my own equipment so the first thing I did was buy my Pico kit, and a wps500. I then got a Solus ultra, autoenginuity, Pass thru pro II, and a smoke machine.
While I'm still somewhat a noob in this area and have far to go, I have learned so much in the past year. The more I learn the more fun it is. It's also fun seeing some of the jaws drop as some of my co-workers see what I've learned.
I think some of them are starting to realize as I did, that computer controls and electronics are not going away so why not learn it. I guess in my case it's better late than never.
