Hello from Thailand
Oct 14th, 2013 at 2:15am

I am the technical trainer for Ford Motor Co. Export & Growth for the Asia Pacific region. From Spencer Iowa, however been working in Asia for 17 years. Prior to that I worked as a technician mostly in Ford dealerships.
I have been reading the post in the archives and I am impressed with the discussions and informations.

Sounds cool dude
Do you teach scope diagnostics in the classroom?

Thanks for the welcome. Yes I have a Pico scope and teach it's diagnostic methods to the techs. Ford has what they call a VMM "Vehicle measurement module" that has a scope function, however very limited features and very slow.
I came to Asia when we opened the plant in Viet Nam and never went back. hehehe

Thanks again excellent forum

Ive been to Thailand a few times, great spot, love Koh Samui and chaweng beach.
Seeing your a Ford trainer, is there any way we can follow diagnostic procedures in the ids ffor fault codes without hooking up the vmm?

Thanks

Andy

Andy The IDS is just the software the vehicle interface is the VCM Vehicle Communications Module. You don't need the VMM at all Vehicle Measurement Module. You can download the software for free at Motorcraft.com, click on the pro center link and the the Motorcraft technical recourses, then diagnostic tool support. Click the IDS option and you will see the system. Here you can download the IDS software for free. The VCM has an annual fee for use. The VCM is no longer available but the VCM II is better and cheaper and can double as a VFR. Vehicle Flight Recorder. 1-year IDS Software License = $699.00 per license.

Can you tell if these technical equipments + info sources also apply to Ford Europe models? Or do you know of any other place to look for that?

Yes the IDS is the same for the European vehicles. Some of the functional test such as power balance, injector flow, relative compression and secondary ignition don't work on the European models.
I travel to 17 countries in Asia and the Pacific and we have many of the European products. Ford dealers have two web sites for technical information, the US uses PTS (professional technicians society) and Europe uses ETIS (European Technical Information System)
At the Motorcraft web site you can buy subscriptions for technical information but only for the US models.
